May Vickers Signs National Letter of Intent By The Montrose Tennis AssociationMONTROSE — The Montrose Tennis Association announced that one of its junior members, Jessica May Vickers of Montrose, has signed a national letter of intent to attend and play tennis at Bryant University in Smithfield, R.I. Bryant is an NCAA Division I University and is a member of the Northeast Conference. Vickers has received a combined tennis/academic scholarship to attend Bryant and is set to enroll in the Fall of 2010. She plans to pursue a major in environmental science with a business minor. Vickers is currently in her senior year at Montrose High School and has been the No. 1 singles player for MHS the last two years, compiling a high school record of 38 wins and three losses, two-time regional champion and has made it to the Colorado Class 4A state quarter-finals twice. She is a nationally ranked junior tennis player and has played in numerous national USTA events across the country since moving to Montrose in the summer of 2007. Vickers is coached locally by Caleb Marquardt and over the last two high school seasons, by former MHS tennis coaches, Bruce Herr and Basil Mike. Whether snowing or sun shining, one is likely to have seen her practicing on the courts around Montrose. Her hard work and dedication to both tennis and her schooling has allowed May to achieve a lifelong dream of playing tennis at the collegiate level. The Montrose Tennis Association offers its congratulations to Vickers for a job well done and looks forward to seeing her play in her final high school season this spring. |
