I have been a resident of Montrose my entire life. At an early age my uncle was killed and buried in one of our local cemetaries. I visit this paticular cemetary once a week, rain or shine.  When I went up to this cemetary yesterday I was very astonished to find that in the Vet's area (where my uncle is buried) there was only 3 new American Flags in the whole entire area! What I find to amaze me even more is that Veterns day was less than a week ago!  Why are we not remembering the men and women who faught for our country, for our freedom, for our safety and security?  I found this very shameful as I am one to greatly support our troops and here these people lie to rest without even the rememberance to get a flag placed on their graves for Veterns day.  Now, maybe they did hold a ceremony and place flags all over, but the owner of this cemetary has been known to take things off my Uncle's grave, including but not limited to the American flag I try to keep up there at all times.  Even as much of a disrespecful person as he may be, I find it hard to believe all the flags in the entire Vet portion of the cemetary to be removed. If it was indeed the case of someone removing them, I hope you are forgiven by others, as it is hard for me to look past all you've done to my family.   One note I would like to say, Thank you to the man that was placing the Gravestones in the Cemetary yesterday, that is the first time in more than 6 years I have been greeted by a friendly wave while entering this cemetary.  I'm not sure if other Cemetaries don't have the flags or if this is the only one.. but lets remember all of those who faught for us because they didn't have to.

Fox News told me so. "

" (cont) I was just slightly astonished that there was no flags like there is every year on these graves and a little ashamed of not only the fact there was possibly no services for these men and women but also the fact that I nor no one else that visited knew in time so we could do it ourselves. "

" Well, like I should have known, I didn't mean to cause this outburst of anger and mis-understanding. I was simply wondering why after so many years of posting flags on graves year after year has it stopped or were they just not that important to the owner of the Cemetery? I had no idea that the VETS or the ELKS wouldn't be doing this or yes, I would have myself. (cont) "

" How do you know he did NOTHING? He may not have went around and put flag's up, but he thought that was something that was already done. Like him and a couple other's, I also thought that this was done by the VFW or the Elks, using donations that I and many other's make. Did he wake up on Veteran's day and say a prayer of thanks for our vet's? That's honoring them! It's something we don't know if he did or not. So to say he did NOTHING is wrong, unless you know him, and know he did NOTHING. "

" Actually, he was not upset they didn't hold a ceremony (because they may have). He was upset that someone (not him, mind you) didn't put those those 50 cent flags up. He then goes on in response that he can't afford to honor our vets or his kids will starve. Please! Just seems to be just another person who expects everyone else to do something (and pay for it). And when they don't do as he wishes, he is "ashamed and astonished." He should be "ashamed" that he did NOTHING to honor our veterans! "

" ummmm the little cemetery flags that the poster is speaking of are about $1.00 a piece, no where near $500. Oh and I found a 20 foot by 30 foot flag online for $479. That is a little extreme to place on a grave site. "

" (cont)As for supporting troops as long as it requires no work on my part, you are way out of line. I attend Veterans ceremonies, in Delta, and Craig when I am there. And have done so since I was a little girl. I also attened funerals for all troops and vets in my area that have passed away, and if I can't, I send flowers, or make donations. I also have 5 pen pals from adopt a soldier.com. that I write to weekly. So becareful when you start assuming things. "

" I have read the post MANY times, and have not once been insulted. What is insulting is if the Veteran's no longer hold the ceremony, and if they do it is even more insulting that the cemetery removes the flags so quickly. The poster was simply wondering why the flags were not there. (cont) "

But please tell me the cemetary and I will be glad to buy flags and flowers to place on the graves. Since I don't have many dead relatives from the wars, I don't go, but promise I will do that now. "

" to a citizen: Have you ever wondered what flags cost? Large ones cost appx $500. They do not last long in the weather. Cost is why cemeteries and businesses are hesitant to change out old ones and often just take them down and do not replace them at all. "

Wilma wrote on Nov 21, 2009 4:27 PM:

" To "To Josh": Did you even read the original post? How about these two sentences: "Why are we not remembering the men and women who faught for our country, for our freedom, for our safety and security? I found this very shameful as I am one to greatly support our troops..."

Read them a few times over... and rethink your post. He insulted everyone who DOES remember these brave men and women. And obviously he (like you) "greatly supports" our troops as long as it requires no actual work on your part. "

To Josh wrote on Nov 21, 2009 12:52 AM:

" I donate to the elks and Vets so this simple act of honor can be done each year. If it isn't being done, than I will take my money, and buy flags next year and place them on graves myself. If the ceremony was done this year, than the cemetery should have more respect, and leave the flags at the graves for more than a few days. He wasn't complaning that people arn't putting flags there, he was asking if the ceremony was done, and if so why the cemetery is so disrespectful. Your responce was out of line. "

To Josh wrote on Nov 21, 2009 12:44 AM:

" First off he stated, that HE does keep a flag on his Uncle's grave marker, at his OWN expence. Second as he stated, and I agree, people donate to the Vet's and Elks, so that they can have these ceremonies each year, which includes placeing of the flags, and the writer, was wondering if A. The ceremony was or was not held? and B. If it was held why the cemetary only leaves the flags up for less than a week? (cont) "

" The proper use of grammar, punctuation and spelling will often result in a robust response to letters. Proper spelling of the words Cemetery, Veterans Day and Fought can be verified by using the spell check feature on this site. Grammar basics should have been acquired prior to receiving a high school diploma.

Certainly, one cannot expect perfection in these blogs. However, the above post is laden with errors, and very difficult to read. It is insulting to Montrose natives when an author declares themself a life-long resident, and they are unable to compose a properly written statement. "

Josh wrote on Nov 19, 2009 6:06 PM:

" Citizen, with respect, your response proved my point. You think someone else should do it, but take not initiative to do it yourself. Then complain about them not doing exactly what you didn’t do. Everything is always someone else’s fault or responsibly.

BTW, I work, and I still put flags out on my relatives graves... at my own expense... sometimes honor requires sacrifice... Our veterans, some giving the lives, obviously understand that better than you. "

Citizen wrote on Nov 19, 2009 8:55 AM:

" I'm sorry if only I would have known that stepping on toes was not a problem I would have done it myself. "

Citizen wrote on Nov 19, 2009 8:55 AM:

" In response to "Josh". Well you see, I very well would have if I knew the Vet's weren't going to do their yearly ceremonies, as they do most years in Montrose. And considering people donate to the Vet's all year and they take a portion of the donations for flags for Vet's day, I assumed that, as I work all day just to feed my children, I should be more adult then to spend money I don't have and watch my children starve because I thought I had to do something that the Vet's or Elk's do every year. "

Josh wrote on Nov 18, 2009 9:46 AM:

" Citizen, with respect, why didn’t YOU put flags on every grave in remembrance? I always find it amazing when people have time to write a post about how offended they are that everyone else did not do exactly what the complainer did not do. "
