Heath insurance should be affordable for all

I read some passionate letters protesting health care reform, with all sorts of charges, ranging from unconstitutional to evil. I wonder if these people have ever had to try to purchase independent health insurance. Anyone who has tried knows the hurdles and obstacles inherent in the system, which feels stacked against the consumer. People who are lucky enough to have health insurance know how some companies routinely deny claims and create a blizzard of paperwork and denials. They also know about hidden “exceptions,” and the “lifetime cap” many policies contain.

I pose this question: if the law says an emergency room must provide care for any person who accesses it for care, why does that care stop at the emergency room? Why is health care insurance beyond the reach of so many Americans? And lastly, how would you feel if it was your loved one who was denied a live-saving measure because he or she either didn’t have affordable insurance, or their insurance company denied the claim?

Let’s create a system of health care access for everyone. No free ride, everyone pays an affordable premium. We in this country are blessed to have wonderful health care. Let’s make is accessible to those who need it, not just to those who can currently afford it.
