January, once accused of running an employment background-screening scam that bilked jobseekers, pleaded guilty earlier this year to theft in a series from a 2008 offense and, according to the DA’s office, saw his probation in two check fraud cases from 2007 revoked.
Other cases, including one in which he alleged invoked legitimate landscaping companies and charged people fees to be screened for non-existent jobs, were dismissed.

Serra echoed that at January’s sentencing Monday. He demanded the court order January to commcorr immediately.
“Was he manipulative? Of course he was ” that’s how people can commit these crimes. Getting Mr. January away from here is what’s best for everyone,” Serra said, adding, that if January failed at commcorr, the judge should “warehouse him” in prison.
