Jim was born in Montrose, Colo. on Jan. 5, 1957. He spent his childhood in Uravan and Nucla. Upon graduation from high school, Jim enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served in Vietnam. He earned numerous medals.
Upon his return from the service, Jim, along with his brother, Bruce, located in Big Lake, where Jim spent the rest of his life, except for the last few months, which were spent in Lakewood while he fought his cancer.

Jim was a big rig operator, working with oil field equipment and hauling the big drill rigs and equipment north to Prudhoe Bay and other points in Alaska. He was a professional ice road trucker for 28 years and had no accidents while operating on the ice roads of Alaska, hauling loads of equipment in excess of 100 tons, sometimes in temperatures 80 degrees below zero.
Jim realized the dangers and risks of his job, nevertheless, he loved his work and gave it his all.
Survivors include his mother, Lu Waugh of Lakewood; father, Herman Waugh of Montrose; brothers, Bruce Waugh of Wasilla, Alaska; Mark Waugh and wife, Dawn, and nephew Justin and niece Jordon, of Battle Mountain, Nev.; and step-brother, Scott Smith of Powder Springs, Ga.
Jim is also survived by his aunts and uncles: Edna Rowan, Alice and Raymond Hawks, Dorothy Westerman and Theresa Richards. He is also survived by several cousins, Tom Rowan, Kathy (Rowan) Smith, Dan Hawks, Don Hawks, Darlene Stanfield, Debbie Volger, David Westernman, Theresa Rood and Patrick Scheetz.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Herman Waugh Jr. and sister, Donna Waugh.
Cremation has taken place. A memorial celebration will be held at 11 a.m. Dec. 6, 2009, at the Moose Lodge in Nucla, Colo, with his cousin, Patrick Scheetz officiating. There will be a luncheon at the Moose Lodge following the celebration.
