Starting the holiday with a healthy step

MONTROSE - Children and grandparents, friends and dogs, even a turkey and a snowman, hauled themselves out of bed on Thanksgiving Day’s sunny, crisp morning for the annual Turkey Trot.

For at least 25 years, the local San Juan Mountain Runners have sponsored the annual walk/run event that starts at Oak Grove Elementary School.

It was Dorothy Wofford’s first year for the event and was persuaded by her daughter, Yvonne Lund, and granddaughter, Lauren Byler, to come.

“They said I could bring Charlotte,” Wofford said.

Charlotte is a basset hound and was dressed in a colorful bandana awaiting the start of the race.
