Why, they even return telephone calls.
The parade is sponsored annually by the Montrose Area Merchants Association. It’ll be Saturday, Dec. 5, in downtown Montrose, a city that likes a good parade and has many of them.
Incidentally, next Friday night at 5:30, the annual Christmas tree lighting will be held at the county courthouse and afterwards, there will be carriage rides, carolers, discounts, dining, extended shopping hours. It’s called “Mistletoe & Merriment,” and it’s brought to you by the same good people and businesses who sponsor the Thursday evening summer treat, “Main in Motion.” After the lighting, Santa & Mrs. Claus will hang out their shingle at Santa’s Cabin in Centennial Plaza and will be accepting requests. I was wondering if MAMA kept a list of past marshals. Since the always-capable Juli Messenger took over the duties, sometime in the last century, yes, they have.
Past honorees/marshals have been: Marge Keehfuss, Jim Kerschner, Michael & Kimberly McGehee, Marilyn Cox, June Chandler, Carol McDermott, Nancy Wilson, Allan Belt, Chuck Butterbaugh, the Hon. Judge Charles Greenacre, Susie Groome, Ken Gale, and others, though the list, Juli says, in somewhat incomplete.
One more trip around the sun ... Happy Birthday Greetings!, today to Montrose Lions Club member and Iwo Jima veteran, Bob Strong.
The Daily Press’ Seasons Readings program is off to a good start. Better Half Susan reports that she’s emptied the collection bin at City Market South three times already.
For 12 years, the Press has partnered with the Montrose Altrusa Club and the Montrose County Health and Human Services to provide books to underserved children in our area at the time of the holidays. If you’ve got some slightly used childrens’ books laying about in the garage or basement that your children or grandchildren have grown out of, consider donating them. Dropoff points: City Market South, Daily Press, Genesis Book Store, Starbucks, Coffee Trader, Mesa State/Montrose/Montrose Regional Library. Altrusans will prepare the books on Dec. 1 and Dec. 16 and they’ll be delivered by the Montrose County Health and Human Services.
Thank you.
