There were about 600 people in attendance, filling the street in front of the courthouse. The event started at 5:30 p.m. with Montrose High School ROTC presenting the colors, while local musician Yvonne Meek sang the “National Anthem” accompanied by the crowd.
Then, there was caroling and a children’s tradition ” reading of “The Night Before Christmas” by Carol McDermott.
“I come every year,” Montrose resident Mary Ann Morie said. “It’s a real hometown feeling that it gives to Christmas.”
Santa and Mrs. Claus made their appearance through the doors of the Courthouse to the cheers of the children. They gathered around Santa while he gave out candy to the “good girls and boy,” and they shouted requests.
Urstadt is hoping for a “swimming dog and a baby dog that walks.”
