MONTROSE - Online crimes against children are on the rise in the state and in the country, but Colorado is helping parents put a stop to it with a new free Web tutorial.

“Wired with Wisdom,” an Internet safety program designed to keep children safe online, was unveiled this week by Colorado Attorney General John Suthers, the Entertainment Software Association and Web Wise Kids Inc.

Online crimes against kids have occurred in Montrose, but never in large numbers, said Police Chief Tom Chinn. He said the program is an asset to law enforcement and parents.

“They (kids) are easy targets, they’re easy victims,” Chinn said. “I think this program will benefit these kinds of investigations and result in a lot more prosecutions.”

Web Wise Kids Inc. is a non-profit organization established in 2000 that offers tutorials for parents and children to learn about technology.
