MONTROSE - Ramona O. (Vaughn) Atencio, age 51, of Montrose, Colo., passed away Thursday, Jan. 28, 2010 at her home in Montrose. Ramona was born July 7, 1958 to Antonio and Mary (Padilla) Atencio in Center, Colo. Ramona was a loving homemaker who loved to spend time with her family and her nieces and nephews. Ramona loved the simple things in life, like fishing and dancing. Her family was her main focus and were very, very special to her. She will be greatly missed by family and friends.

Survivors grateful to have shared her life include her special companions, Mesendo and Roberto Diaz; her brothers and sisters, Antonio Atencio of Colorado Springs, Colo., Jake (Joanna) Velasquez of Missouri, Sylvie Velasquez of Glenwood Springs, Colo., Lorencita Atencio of Montrose, Debbie (Doug) Cook of Paonia, Colo., Lupe Velasquez of Montrose; stepfather, Joe Martinez of Montrose. Ramona was preceded in death by her parents, Mary Padilla Martinez and Antonio Atencio Sr. and sisters, Mercy Austin and Sylvia Atencio. A public visitation for family and friends will be held from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, Feb. 1, 2010 with a 7 p.m. Rosary at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, Feb. 2, at 1 p.m. at Crippin Funeral Home Chapel. Burial will follow the service at Cedar Cemetery, east of Montrose. Arrangements are under the direction of Crippin Funeral Home & Crematory.
