After receiving a bye at the 160-pound weight class, it was MHS' Bryce Gaber (171) who got things rolling for the Indians. Gaber made quick work of his counterpart and pinned him at the 1:36 mark in the first period to give Montrose the early 12-0 lead.
That match followed with three consecutive forfeits. Two of those went to the Indians, while the other went to the Demons.

After one match and five forfeits, the Indians led the Demons by 24-12.
"I thought we wrestled a little flat tonight," said Montrose Head Coach Kevin Passehl. "There were just too many forfeits tonight to really get things going. It's tough to keep momentum when there are that many forfeits."
The most exciting match of the evening came at 112 pounds. After two periods, MHS' Geordon Hudson and the Demons' CJ Hamby both were deadlocked at 2-2 going into the third and final period. As time was coming to an end, Hudson found what little energy he had left and turned Hamby to his back. With an escape point and three back points, Hudson got the 6-2 victory. Following Hudson's match, the Indians worked their way through the middle of their lineup to get victories from Kordell Bradshaw (119), who recorded a pinfall at the 3:16 mark in the second period, Drew Schumann (125), who also won by pinfall at the 1:52 mark in the first period and Marcus Velasquez, who won by major decision, 14-2.
With four victories in a row, the Indians led the Demons by 43-12.
"The kids wrestled tough, especially Hudson," Passehl said. Against a solid wrestler, Passehl said Hundson "went out and took care of business — as did Bradshaw and Schumann. Overall, it was a good night."
Even with a relatively inexperienced squad, Durango fought with Montrose until the end. The Demons took the final three out of four matches on the evening. Despite their effort, it just wasn't enough to overcome a, experienced Indians squad.
"It's definitely not a good way to finish a dual," Passehl said. "But we got the win tonight and that's all that matters."
The Indians, who are now 17-2 overall in duals and 4-0 in the Southwestern League, will host Montezuma-Cortez 10 a.m. today for their final home dual on the season.
