MONTROSE - Not many parents would be pleased with a “D+” from their child, but that’s exactly what Colorado brought home on its Child Health Report Card.

Colorado fell behind in all areas ” health care quality, accessibility, coverage, poverty, obesity, dental care and nutrition ” in the report released Thursday by the Colorado Health Foundation.

The state ranked 45th in the nation in the percentage of children with health insurance, 38th in the percentage of children who received routine dental preventive care in the past year, and 34th for the percentage of children who were physically active for four or more days per week.

It’s a drop from Colorado’s “C-” last year.

But the grade is no surprise to community entities trying to break down the health care barriers.
