DELTA - In an area rife with sex crimes, the Delta Police Department is letting you know who, exactly, your neighbor is. The department unveiled its own online sex-offender registry Monday, becoming the first agency in Montrose and Delta counties to create an electronic site for that purpose.

The Paonia Police Department also plans to launch an online registry, possibly by week’s end, said Sgt. Shawn Sanchez.

“It gives people the ability to know who their neighbors are, or it makes them aware of their surroundings,” said Sindy Burton, the Delta police records administrator who is in charge of the sex offender registry.
