DENVER - A Western Slope sand and gravel company must pay nearly a half million dollars to three former employees to settle sexual discrimination and retaliation complaints.

Old Castle SW Group Inc., doing business as United Companies of Mesa County, is permanently enjoined from discriminating against any employee because of sex or disability. The company does not have to admit wrongdoing in the firings of a female plant manager in Delta and two male co-workers who complained to management about the way she was treated.

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission said the company violated Title VII of the Civil Rights Act concerning sexual discrimination and retaliation. The two male plaintiffs also alleged unspecified disability discrimination. The EEOC announced the settlement agreement Wednesday.
