MONTROSE ” Thousands of Verizon Wireless customers were without service throughout the Western Slope and parts of Wyoming all of Monday and most of Tuesday morning after a malfunction at Verizon’s Aurora facility.

The switch at the facility had a hardware failure, said Bob Kelley, Verizon Wireless spokesman. He said the switch is similar to a computer, and all wireless data for Colorado customers are routed there.

The malfunction caused a lot of problems for local Verizon customers.

Lindsey Lespenance said not being able to use her phone ruined her day.

“I couldn’t use my phone at all. No text, no voice mails. I couldn’t get calls, and I couldn’t make any,” Lespenance said. “It was just all shut off.”
