MONTROSE ” They wined, they dined, they danced, and they laughed.

The Montrose Police Department’s first annual “Police Officer’s Ball” proved to be a huge success, as more than a hundred people from the community and surrounding areas packed the Montrose Pavilion to show support for local officers. The event helped raise $10,000 to $15,000, estimated Montrose Police Cmdr. Gene Lillard. The money raised will help the Montrose Police Department afford training and purchase much-needed equipment, including a new Special Weapons and Tactics team vehicle, Lillard said.

“Tonight exceeded our expectations,” Lillard said. “The citizens in and around Montrose County went above and beyond.”

After the opening reception, attendants were treated to dinner courtesy of Pine Cone Catering Company, which included beef tenderloin, twice baked potatoes and salmon. During dinner, several people made their way to the stage to share stories about the Montrose Police, including Montrose Mayor Kathy Ellis. Ellis told the crowd it was important to honor law enforcement for protecting us every day, and took a moment to honor Montrose Police Chief Tom Chinn.
