MONTROSE ” Kids aged 8 to 18 have prepared for months to show their animals at the Montrose County Fair. Tuesday through Thursday, they did just that. And Saturday, the shows will culminate with the Junior Livestock Sale.

The process of preparing an animal for sale is a huge responsibility, as participants must buy their own animals, care for them, work with them, feed them and keep a record book.

“It teaches them responsibility ... the care, the maintenance ” all of that makes them be responsible people,” said Doug Kimberlin, Fair Board member and sale overseer. “It teaches them how to budget money, how to spend money, how to keep books, keep records ... And I think it makes them model citizens and teaches them how to be leaders.
