Resolve to evolve

Did you make resolutions on New Year's Day? The most popular resolutions involve health and finances – Jan. 1 is when diets begin, smokers (attempt to) stop, gyms see a huge bump in memberships, workers seek better opportunities and people create budgets or start saving.

Cooking outside the lines

In an upcoming M magazine article about soups, stews and chilis, I mention that baking is a science, but cooking is an art. Perhaps that's why I have such a hard time when someone asks for a recipe for my potato salad, or my enchiladas — I can tell you what goes in it, but how much of anything is according to whim.
