DELTA — Many local residents and organizations worked together Tuesday to offer four young veterans an experience that is sure to last.

The four young veterans, who all sustained physical and mental trauma in battlefields in Iraq and Afghanistan, took to the fields southeast of Delta on Tuesday  to try their hand at hunting. Through several organizations, these young men were offered the opportunity to hunt at Black Canyon Wing & Clay as a token of gratitude for their service and a way to help them adjust to civilian life.

Believe it or not, the activity was intended to help the vets forget about battlefield experiences as their targets — pheasants and chuckar, both game birds — were not firing back.
