It’s typical to hear the complaints from many teens in Montrose that there is nothing to do in this town, so local resident Seth Roybal wanted to do something about it.
Approximately four years ago, Roybal said, a music production company in town began hosting raves for local teens, which seemed to have a dramatic impact on them. A rave is known to be a big party or gathering by young people, which commonly sees drug use while dancing to fast electronic music. After a few incidents at those raves involving teens and illegal use of drugs, the public became worried, Roybal said.
But when that production company left town two years ago, Roybal said, he saw an opportunity for his own company, Valkyrie Productions, to begin hosting raves with his own spin. He, along with several other music production company owners from around the area, collaborated so that his Valkyrie Productions could begin hosting monthly EDM (electronic dance music) dances.
