Delta police welcome verifiable information concerning the Monday death of a man there.

Along with valuable tips, though, officers have been receiving a fair number of red herrings. That’s not helping, Delta Police Chief Robert Thomas said.

“Amazing assumptions” are being made, Thomas said on Wednesday, as the probe of 27-year-old Chad Koch II’s death reached its third day.

Police have said from the get-go that Koch’s cause and manner of death have not yet been determined. He was found on private property at the intersection of H-38 Road and U.S. 50 some time after 8 p.m. Monday, and his death has been deemed “suspicious.”

The first rumors police refuted were reports that Koch had been shot; there was no shooting, Thomas reiterated Wednesday. There is also no evidence at this time to suggest whether an accident may have occurred, Thomas said.
