Montrose horse racing resumes after eight-year absence

‘Nonstop action’ starts at 1 p.m. Saturday, Sunday

MONTROSE — The racetrack is up to par, the purses are in place and horses are resting for the big races this weekend at the Montrose County Fairgrounds.

The first horse races here in eight years start at 1 p.m. Saturday and Sunday — and they’re free for spectators.

Action will be nonstop, organizers promise, with ranch team sorting contests between the races, as well as mule or cow horse races for anyone who wants to bring such animals and compete.
