For the second straight year, Altrusa is teaming up with Pomona Elementary School to encourage children to walk and bike to school. This year, two active students will be riding home on new bicycles as part of Power Yourself to School Week.
The effort is part of nationwide Walk to School Day, which officially takes place on Wednesday. But Pomona officials and the Montrose Altrusa club decide it was a worthwhile cause for the entire week — and beyond.
“We are participating because it has multiple benefits,” said Joe Simo, Pomona Elementary principal. “The program teaches health, environmental awareness and safety. We are actually going to continue this every Wednesday to promote walking and riding bikes.”
