DELTA—A single-vehicle accident in Delta County claimed the life of two people in shortly after 4 p.m. Wednesday afternoon on U.S. Highway 50 near G50 Road north of Delta.
Two other occupants in the car were taken to Delta County Memorial Hospital, with unspecified injuries.
The Kia Sorrento, driven by a 17-year-old from New Mexico, appeared to be traveling at a high rate of speed eastbound on Hwy 50 when it ran off the left shoulder of the road, Colorado State Patrolman Scott Gardner said.
The driver over-corrected the vehicle and rolled it onto its roof. Several of the passengers were ejected from the car, according to officers at the scene.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene while three others were transported to Delta County Memorial Hospital where a second person was pronounced dead.
The condition of the other two occupants of the vehicle was unknown as of press time.
