It breaks my heart to read about the Omernik family closing the doors of Jeans Westerner after 40 years of meeting the needs of this community. They have all worked so hard and ran a much-needed business, primarily for the sportsmen in the area.
It's hard to believe that today marks five years since my husband's death.
My condolences to the family of Dr. Ted Dickinson, as well as to the community that he so valiantly served. Isn’t it amazing that one man could make such a difference? He was an excellent example for all of us. He definitely made his mark and will not be easily forgotten.
Time for the Wool Growers annual banquet is quickly approaching.
Welcome home to the National Guard 928th Area Medical Support Company! Thank you for your sacrifice and service, especially your recent time in Afghanistan. We’re so thankful and happy that every one of you returned safe and sound. You gave and accomplished so much, as did your families. A special congratulations to Sgt. Matthew Colson and Elena Cortez on your engagement. The stories in Saturday’s Daily Press brought tears to my eyes.
Yesterday marked 100 years since the marriage of Thomas Harvey Cox to Lelia May Elliott in Chanute, Kansas.
I was touched by the letter to the editor last week from Kendell McWilliams of Borger, Texas. I had written a column about his mother, Carla McWilliams, and he stated that, thanks to that column, he learned new information about his mom. I’m happy that my writing was appreciated by McWilliams and that he can now draw a more complete picture of his mom. She’s quite a lady!
Mabel is a honey! She not only shines like a brand-new penny, but she glows with personality and all the attributes of just what she is — a priceless antique that documents not just history, but family history. Her new and final home is the show room of Flower Motor Company at 2580 N. Townsend Ave.
“They are rich who have true friends.”
Gifts come to us in many different ways. My latest was meeting and visiting with Carla McWilliams of Olathe — a dear little lady who radiates love and positive energy, even though she is very ill.
What a wonderful parade Saturday evening! I enjoyed walking throughout downtown, stepping in and out of businesses, and listening to various musical performances. I love it when our historic downtown buildings are filled with people!
Glenn Underwood was the kind of guy who said it like it was and never left me guessing about what was on his mind. He had firm beliefs, and was honest and forthright. He served his community in many capacities from volunteering to being a state representative. We lost him on Nov. 20 at the age of 94.
Every time I visit the Museum of the Mountain West just east of town, I see something that I haven’t noticed before. I had the privilege a few weeks ago of taking my cousin, Junior (Leonard) Lashley, from Sarahsville, Ohio. So many things in the museum sparked memories for him, so I learned a lot that day.
Remembering Veterans Day this Friday, I offer a huge thank you to each and every veteran.
Under the leadership of several business and professional people with lawyer H. W. Catlin at the helm, an organizational meeting was held at the Masonic Hall, resulting in a unanimous decision to form the Montrose Lions Club. They received their charter 90 years ago on Nov. 13, 1921, in the basement of the Methodist Church. Their first project was providing turkeys to the needy that Thanksgiving.
I spent the weekend with my girls in a condo in beautiful Ouray. There were three generations of us, sharing, shopping, soaking in the hot springs pool, eating, tasting wines and doing a lot of laughing, sometimes hysterically. We were celebrating the upcoming marriage of my daughter Pam to Dan Cadwallader, a die-hard Nebraska Cornhuskers fan who loves our Colorado mountains as much as we do.
I think the valley colors were at their peak this weekend. It has been an absolutely gorgeous fall, and I want it to last forever, but know it won’t! I spent Sunday afternoon at Pa-Co-Chu-Puk campground with my daughter Lori’s family in their new toy hauler. What a beautiful place, and so close to home.
Sunday’s paper was filled with all of the weekend happenings in the community — sharing and caring in capital letters!
