Willis tied for 28th place at state

Posted: Tuesday, October 2, 2012 3:30 am

Montrose High’s Riley Willis did his hometown proud in the first round of the Class 4A state golf tournament on Monday.

Willis shot a 79 — seven over par — in the first round of the tournament, which is being held at The Links at Cobble Creek. As a result, he’s tied for 28th heading into today’s final round with Vista Ridge’s Dylan Hall, Rifle’s Danny Bartles, Mesa Ridge’s Braden Bentley and Durango’s Cory Gillespie.

“I guess I am satisfied with it, but I think I could have done a little better,” said Willis, who is Montrose’s only representative in the tournament.
