A large fire, identified by the Delta County Emergency Management as a “structure fire," blazed up a short distance west of the G Road and the Confluence Drive intersection Tuesday, Nov. 2, late afternoon.

Delta County Sheriff Mark Taylor sent deputies to block traffic and says the cause of the fire, at a hemp-drying plant on G Road, is not currently known. The blaze, he said Tuesday evening, "looks pretty bad," and was putting off black smoke.

Deputies halted traffic on G Road at G-50 Road and the Confluence Drive bypass; Taylor said the fire was burning 2 miles west of the bypass. Access to G Road remained restricted Wednesday morning, according to Taylor.

Information from Delta Fire was not immediately available.

Taylor said Wednesday that the fire may be burning well into the coming week. Multiple agencies responded to provide mutual aid.
