A Montrose woman was killed Friday, Aug. 13, when, according to the Colorado State Patrol, another woman ran into the back end of the truck in which she was riding on 64.50 Road, ejecting her.

Graciela Suarez-DeVargas, 62, was thrown through the windshield upon impact. She later was pronounced dead at Montrose Memorial Hospital.

Her husband, Jesus Vargas, 67, sustained minor injuries.

The Colorado State Patrol said Jennifer K. Sabartinelli (who is also identified in reports as Sabastinelli), 45, is suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol and that speed is a factor in the crash.

She was arrested on suspicion of vehicular homicide-DUI and reckless vehicular homicide, both felonies. She is also accused of careless driving causing injury; driving under restraint; DUI and failure to report an accident.

Formal charges are pending. She was being held on a $60,000 bond Monday, according to jail records.
