Ophir shakes from Silverton-area quake

A 3.6 magnitude earthquake shook a rural section of the San Juan mountains between Silverton and Rico Friday, with rumblings felt near Ophir, where, according to the San Miguel County Sheriff’s Office, loud noise also was reported.

The U.S. Geological Survey’s records show the quake hit about 8.6 miles east of Rico. A second, small quake of 2.2 magnitude also was documented about an hour after the first.
