A 55-year-old man died when his biplane crashed outside of Delta Friday, Sept. 17.

Timothy Friendshuh, hometown not provided, was the pilot and sole occupant of a biplane that was found crashed into terrain about 10 miles from Delta.

The Delta County Coroner’s Office confirmed his identity Monday.

A witness had spotted the plane at about 8 a.m. Friday, flying near Doctor Mesa. The witness called in the craft as possibly down, bringing out searchers. Delta County Sheriff’s Office deputies and Cedaredge Fire Departmen subsequently found the plane, resting on the side of a steep bank.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
