Police seek vehicle of interest in armed robbery

The Jeep seen in the far upper right of photo, by the crosswalk, is being sought because it was in the area of a July 11 robbery at the Alta gas station, 938 S. Townsend Ave., police said.

Police have released footage showing a possible suspect vehicle in last week’s hold-up of the Alta convenience store. The vehicle is shown in the far upper right of the photo at the crosswalk; it appears to be light-colored, although police cannot confirm the color.

Cameras at the South Townsend Avenue store picked up a Jeep, unknown model, in the Alta parking lot at 938 S. Townsend Ave. prior to the robbery.

It apparently was parked down the street at the time an unknown male, his face concealed with a bandana, came into the gas station and robbed the register at gunpoint at approximately 2:20 a.m. July 11. The man fled into the night; the Jeep was seen driving away from the area a short time later. Police said the robbery suspect might have run to the Jeep and either driven off in it, or had another person drive him. They are not certain how many people might have been in the vehicle and said only one person robbed the store. Anyone with information about the Jeep or possible occupants is asked to call dispatch at 970-249-9110 or make an anonymous report at Montrose Regional Crime Stoppers’ tip line, 970-249-8500; mobile app P3Tips.
