School’s out so let the fun begin – as Youth Theatre takes over at Magic Circle Players.
Kids from third grade through high school can stretch their imagination and gain confidence through a variety of acting programs throughout the summer.
Youth Theatre kicks off in style with the presentation of Once Upon A Wolf by Steph DeFrie. A fun family play it features a reformed wolf who, become a vegetarian and no longer wants to play the villain. But how can Granny Stinkyfeet tell the stories of “Little Red Riding Hood” or “The Three Little Pigs” without a Big Bad Wolf?
An exasperated Granny revises a number of beloved fairy tales so the Wolf can be a good guy for a change. Wolf appears as Goldilocks and The Fairy Godmother much to the dismay of a cast of colorful characters. In the end, everyone learns a lesson on acceptance and flexibility.
Eight young actors will portray a total of 26 characters in this delightful play. Enjoying themselves playing a bear, a lion, stepsisters, kings, princesses and others are: Nathan Mathieu, McKinley Nichols, Lorelei Innarelli, Tatum Pfeiffer, Melina Tomlinson, Claire Taylor, Cameron Davis and Cole Patterson. Co-directors Nancy Ballantyne and Kim Santich are heading up the production of Once Upon A Wolf. “These young actors have worked very hard to learn the different characters involved,” said Ballantyne. “They are all so talented.”
Santich added, “These are all local kids so we are hoping the community shows their support and comes to one of the performances. Wouldn’t it be great to say ‘I saw that star at Magic Circle when they were just starting out!”
