Crystal Combs and Jerrod Young are the new owners of The Temple Events Center at 511 E. Main St. They closed the sale on Oct. 20., buying the property from John and Jordan Carls.
Carls’ Precedence Music Academy and Precedence Productions will continue to operate in the current location as will Tim Frates’ MegaPixel custom framing/photography gallery next door.
The building is the former Masonic Lodge, which opened in 1911 and in 2004 was listed to the National Register of Historic Places. It has undergone extensive renovations.
Combs said she and Young were sitting across the street at San Juan Brews when she saw it advertised for sale.
“We fell in love with the building,” said Combs. “I had ballet lessons in that building when I was a child, so there was some sentiment, too.”
The second-floor gallery’s interior will be modified to include books and art from around the world, added Combs, plus some painting to brighten and lighten the walls is in the works.
Stephen Woody was the publisher of community daily newspapers for 38 years in four cities, including the Montrose Daily Press, 1997-2011.
