Jeremy Herder

This week’s theme: Montrose High School Marching Band members

Herder, a senior at Montrose High School, is the drum captain and hopes to attend either the University of Colorado-Boulder or Pepperdine University in Malibu, Calif., after graduation in the spring. He plays the snare drum in the marching band.

Q: What does a drum captain do?

A: As drum captain, I am section leader of the drum line. I make sure the drum line learns their music and  marches correctly. I keep the correct tempo for the band while marching because the drum major watches the tempo my feet march at.

Q: Why did you decide to join the band?

A: My freshman year, I wasn’t in marching band, and all my friends were, so feeling left out, I decided to join, and it was one of the best decisions I’ve made in high school.

Q: Who is your current favorite musical artist?

A: Paramore.

Q: What makes your band great?

A: We have an amazing overall attitude and determination to push ourselves to be the best we can be.

Q: What song would you like the band to perform?

A: “Can’t Hold Us” by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.
