This week’s theme: pet owners
Ten-year-old Mahlia Perez’s best friend is her guinea pig, Roxi. Perez adopted her pet six months ago. Roxi wakes Perez up in the morning when it is time to feed her, and when Perez opens her cage, Roxi “talks” to her. For Perez’s birthday, she would like to get Roxi a new cage equipped with a new bed and a ramp.
Q: Why did you decide to have a guinea pig as a pet?
A: I’ve always wanted a guinea pig, and my friend had one (that) she didn’t want to take care of any more. So, I decided to adopt (Roxi) from her.
Q: Do you have any other pets?
A: We have two dogs and a couple of fish.
Q: What do you and Roxi like doing together?
A: We like to watch TV together. I like playing with her. We like going on walks, but she doesn’t actually walk, she just stands there. But it’s still pretty fun.
Q: What do you feed Roxi?
A: We give her timothy hay, vegetables, some fruits, but not all of them, pelts and, of course, water.
Q: What makes your pet special?
A: I personally love her name, and she is mine, so I think that makes her special.
