This week’s theme: baristas

Originally from San Diego, Mohney graduated from the University of California San Diego with a degree in psychology and worked at three coffee houses while in school. She worked as a child development councilor for two years after college and moved to Montrose two years ago for a life change. Mohney has been a barista at the Looney Bean Roasting Company since the move, drinks two cups of coffee with almond milk a day and is single.

Q: What are your aspirations in life?

A: I want to teach second grade. I am going back to school to earn a master’s degree in education.

Q: How do you spend your free time when you are not foaming lattes?

A: I also teach a spin class a Gold’s Gym. Yes, I know it’s work, but it’s what I like to do. I also like to hike and spend time with my family.

Q: What is the most popular drink at Looney Bean?

A: I would say it’s the Velvet Elvis, which is a coffee drink with both caramel and white chocolate, hot or iced.

Q: How do you make the perfect cappuccino?

A: With love and start with the perfect amount of milk steamed with the right stretching technique to make a sweet-tasting foam.

Q: What is the best thing to pair with that cappuccino?

A: I am going to say a blueberry or whole wheat scone, or a cinnamon scone or maybe a cinnamon roll.

Q: What is your favorite drink to make and why?

A: My favorite drink to make is probably an almond milk latte. It takes a lot of skill to foam almond milk perfectly.
