Three children were hit during the Fourth of July Parade on East Main Street, when a vehicle in the parade pushed a parked golf cart into them.
Two of the three children were taken to the hospital; no serious injuries were reported, Montrose Police Cmdr. Tim Cox said. Firefighters already on scene because of the parade were seen rushing forward to help.
According to preliminary information from the Montrose Police Department, a roadster or "kit car" was in the parade, but overheated. Its driver pulled over and turned the vehicle off.
However, when he restarted the car, it was still in gear and popped forward, striking a city-owned, unoccupied golf cart that Cox said also was broken down by the side of the road. The golf cart then ran over the children.
Cox said the vehicle operator was cited for careless driving causing injury.
