A recovering economy is good for Dave Reynolds’ business, which is growing every year.
With Mobile Home Parks and RV Horizons, which is based out of Cedaredge, Reynolds has expanded his ownership of mobile home and RV parks to 16 states, including Mountain Village Mobile Home and RV Park in Montrose.
Reynolds said he and his team have purchased between 15 to 20 different properties per year for the last several years.
“We expect to keep growing at that pace as long as we can find good properties to buy,” he said.
That expansion has led to Montrose-based employees, through RV Horizons, increasing from four to about 15 in the last three months.
“We have a lot of great employees scattered all over the country, but our core company is here in Cedaredge and Montrose,” Reynolds said.
There are nine Affordable Home Communities in Colorado, and 89 throughout the country. RV Horizons manages the parks after they are purchased by Reynolds.
Reynolds purchased his first park in Limon 20 years ago, and later moved to Cedaredge in 2001 with his wife Terri, who grew up there.
He said it’s been a slow process to grow where Mobile Home Parks is now, but the business benefits in this type of economy.
“I really never thought we would get above 10 or 20 properties,” Reynolds said.
As the economy went downhill in 2008 and 2009, there were fewer buyers in the market.
Reynolds recognized the opportunity to expand by purchasing those properties and providing affordable housing for people struggling.
“Our business in quite unique in that we proposer when the economy is not doing so well because we provide a really affordable product for a lot of people to live,” he said. “That’s probably the reason we’re able to keep growing.”
The Mountain Village property in Montrose was added in 2010. Additional office space in Montrose was obtained this year to make room for the added employees.
