Myrna Dolores Cargill, born on July 5, 1930 to William and Delilah Russell of Frederick, Okla., passed away on Sept. 19, 2011 in Montrose, Colo., with family by her side. She excelled in school, graduating at age 16 as valedictorian, was homecoming queen at Central State University in Oklahoma, as well being first runner up for Miss CSU. She was married to prominent Oklahoma City attorney, O.A. “Buck” Cargill Jr., for 20 years.
Dolores moved to Crested Butte, Colo. in 1976. She owned antique and book shops for 35 years. She enjoyed expressing her creativity through art and being in nature. Passionate about writing and poetry, she was awarded the Edgar Lee Masters Award from the University of Oklahoma, as well as publishings in the Denver Post. Dolores loved her family and will be deeply missed.
She is survived by four children: Mary Logan of Conover, N.C., Christy Cargill-Best and Russ Cargill, of Santa Cruz, Calif. and Angie St. John of Montrose; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beloved granddaughter, Holly Jordan St. John, of Montrose, Colo.
