Gunnison High School hosted the Cowboy Invitational Wrestling Tournament last Saturday for sixteen schools around the Western Slope.

The tournament was won by the Canon City wrestlers who amassed 256.5 points. Montrose and Mead finished second and third with 241 points and 228.5 points, respectively. The Olathe wrestlers finished in 11th place scoring 66.5 points.

106 pounds: Trevor Piatt (Olathe) placed 5th and scored 13.5 points.

113 pounds: Luke McCullough (Olathe) placed 10th and scored six points.

120 pounds: Tanner Westermann (Olathe) placed 10th and scored six points.

138 pounds: Silvano Alejandro (Olathe) placed 8th and scored 10.5 points.

160 pounds: Chase Ripley (Olathe) placed 3rd and scored 14.5 points.

182 pounds: Eli Mock (Olathe) placed 10th and scored six points.

182 pounds: Isrrael Chi (Olathe) placed 11th.

220 pounds: Kyle Sanburg (Olathe) placed 9th and scored 10 points.

Other schools that participated in the Gunnison Tournament included Pueblo County, Gunnison, Summit County, Rye, Dove Creek, Sargent, Nucla, Centauri, Custer County, Sierra Grande and Mountain Valley.

Delta will be next up for the Pirate wrestlers. The match is slated for the Olathe Fieldhouse on Thursday, Jan. 13 with the first match at 6 p.m.
