The 2018 state boys golf champion Micah Stangebye took fifth place last week in the highly-competitive American Junior Golf Association tournament in Buffalo Dunes in Garden City, Kansas.
The Montrose High School golfer shot 2-under par to finish with a three-day collective score 214.
Stangebye shot 3-under (69) in the first round but finished 1-over (73) on the second day before ending his final round even (72). He had nine total birdies and seven bogeys.
Fellow MHS golfer Jordan Jennings also competed in the tournament but didn’t make the final day cut. He finished with the tournament shooting 14-over par (158). He shot 83 on day one and then 77 the following round.
Jennings had three total birdies.
The Montrose duo will now play in the Optimist Junior World Golf Championship July 26-31 at the Trump Doral Golf Course in Miami.
